NFL 08 week 4 TOP D's & O's - results

TOP O's

ATS winners:

1st set - [ SU/ATS ]

JAC (-7, vs HOU), - win/lose

CHI (+3, vs PHI), - win/win

KC (+9, vs DEN), - win/win

CIN (-3.5, vs CLE) - lose/lose

2nd set -

SD (-7.5, @OAK) , win/win

PIT (-7, vs BAL) win/loss

ATS LOSERS:

1st set - [ SU/ATS ]

NO (-6, vs SF) win/win

2nd set -

ARI (+2.5, @NYJ), lose/lose

WAS (+11, @DAL), win/win

GB (+2, @TB), lose/lose

PHI (-3, @CHI) lose/lose

it seems there is a trend to follow or perhaps I'm seeing too much of what I want to see, but TOP O's ATS winners produces more winners and ATS losers produces more losers.

TOP D's

on the web - Sunday Night Football

http://static.nfl.com/static/snf/WOW.html?icampaign=Chi_Phi_Live

while the game was on, I found the End Zone view to be my favorite. There's also a cable cam which was pretty good at times as well, a follow the QB's view, a sideline cam and of course the standard normal broadcast view.

I wonder if this will be on next week? I just happened to be on the nfl site when I noticed the Sunday Night Football Extra link, which proclaims watch the game live and sure enough, it was live and very clear on my cable modem connection (I compared to broadcast TV). It's interactive and very well done, now only if I had a larger screen than my laptop, though I must say it (the broadcast) was very, very good and any football fan would really appreciated the multiple views to choose from during the game. Of course, their's commercials, but this was expected and acceptable...

2nd set - SD (-7.5, @OAK) , PIT (-7, vs BAL)

ATS LOSERS:
1st set - ATL (+7, @CAR), NO (-6, vs SF)
2nd set - ARI (+2.5, @NYJ), WAS (+11, @DAL), GB (+2, @TB), PHI (-3, @CHI)

This is an experiment to pick ATS winners & losers, using stats from previous week

games w/o defining O trend
MIN @TEN -3
BUF @STL +8

TOP D's
ATS WINNERS:
1st set - PHI (-3, @CHI), MIN? (+3, @TEN), STL? (+8, vsBUF), CLE? (+3.5, @CIN)
2nd set - OAK (+7.5, vsSD), TB (-2, vsGB)

ATS LOSERS:

2nd set - GB (+2, @TB), NYJ (-2.5, vsARI), CHI (+3, vsPHI), CIN (-3.5, vsCLE), JAC (-7.5, vsHOU), WAS (+11, @DAL)

oddity:
KC is in 2nd set of ATS Losers, but notice DEN is in 1st set - someone has to win right?

we'll see if data interpretation is accurate enough to use....

NFL 08 - week 3 - picks

wasn't feeling well, though late posting these are original notes/picks

The teams sitting at 0-2 (San Diego, Jacksonville, Detroit, Minnesota, Seattle, St. Louis, Kansas City, Miami, Cincinnati, and Cleveland) are in overdrive
KC @ATL KC can't stop run
CIN @NYG CIN just doesn't play well
MIA @NE MIA will find it very tough
CAR @MIN MIN new QB, too little too late?
STL @SEA STL just bad, SEA finally wins? lots of inj's
DET @SF DET, only good teams w/on the road...
JAC @IND JAC is beat up on OL, IND is beat up everywhere
CLE @BAL BAL D can still stifle CLE
NYJ @SD SD just overpowers NYJ

this is the other highlight game of the weekend and will feature two very good D's and O's that can stutter at times. CAR 1st home game this yr and CHI 2nd road game, I think it's tougher to come up w/another monumental effort to win on the road, than it is to defend home field and if WR/KR/PR Hester is slowed in anyway by his foot issue (or is this an inj diversion) CAR will begin to dominate the NFC

though NE has more talent overall, NYJ is a team on the rise, it's very evident w/their D and not much w/O. This game may go under total as I expect some fairly conservative play calling on both sides, due to familiarity and newness of QB's playing in each "system".

update: couldn't watch MNF games ... sigh, but I spoke w/a colleague and MIN QB sucks (can't read coverages, lacks accuracy, timing is atrocious and no rhythm) + poor play calling and MIN should just run the ball. GB QB Roger's once he settled in looked like QB from PAC10 days, though play calling was very conservative on 3rd downs

no idea what happen w/DEN @OAK, but judging from score, once DEN D figured out OAK O and D, the rout was on.....

comments: on another site I actually pick'd BAL, but I forgot to do it here, oh well and perhaps the SEA pick was ill conceived as well.

ATL looks really good and DET ???
same w/BUF (looks good) and SEA ???

some would say CAR was lucky, perhaps a bit, but I really don't think so. SD had a challenge end in their favor and immediately scored, plus CAR should have just kicked the FG in the beginning. CAR won despite their own missteps (and w/o WR S Smith)- this is a talented team.

JAC will have misgivings on letting DT Marcus Stroud go to BUF and BUF is very very thankful as they were consistently getting good PUSH on SEA OL.

JAC had much better starting kickoff avg (their 40yd line) and could not consistently move, which is a result of not having their #1 & #2 WR's as well as the ferocious D of TEN. It was perhaps "?fortunate?" that TEN QB V Young was hurt in the 4th and proven vet QB K Collins came back in and directed (pass'd) the winning TD drive. I'm not convinced that QB V Young would have been successful. (this is based on a quick review of stats)

update: now I know why w/reports of OL inj's...

BTW I was unable to watch JAC @TEN, HOU @PIT, & CIN @BAL

Speaking of inj's, NE QB Brady's exit in the 1st qtr allowed QB Cassel to blossom, though KC nearly won, if only their WR's didn't get the "dropsies".

SEA w/o WR B Engram, just doesn't look the same.
DET is pig headed w/runnin the ball.
Did ATL look good because of DET D? or because they have finally arrived? I don't think they'll be as good as CLE was last year.

if SF could've just limited their TO's as ARI is a bit inept in the RedZone (poor play calling IMHO)...

Saturday, September 06, 2008

makes me think....

over at http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/2008/09/national-football-post-diner-news-10/
there's a paragraph that reads:

"In dead salary cap space, the term for money still allocated to players no longer on the team, the Redskins were first since 2000 at $83 million, according to the records. Washington was followed by the 49ers and Denver Broncos ($80 million), Tennessee Titans ($78 million) and Oakland Raiders ($75 million)"

and I'll say that none of the above teams will reach 8-8 this year (SU) and in fact, I'd be looking to be against them anytime they are favorites (ATS), especially on the road.
Dead $$ means these teams have less to spend on their own players and that they haven't drafted well since 2000 and will have a harder time retaining their good players due to all the debt they are carrying.
